Why I Fell in Love with Solid Gel Polish

Why I Fell in Love with Solid Gel Polish

I’ve always loved having my nails done. In 2020, I decided to start doing them myself, and it quickly became something I genuinely looked forward to. Turns out, I was pretty okay at it, too!

For me, every step feels therapeutic—the prep, sculpting, filing, and buffing. I love taking my time and watching everything come together.

But then came the dreaded part: painting.

What a mess! I honestly never thought I’d conquer it. No matter how careful I was, I always seemed to end up with drips, flooded cuticles, or more polish where it didn’t belong than where it did.

Then I stumbled across solid gel polish.

To say I was excited would be an understatement.

No mess. No drips. No spills. And if I made a mistake? It was so much easier to fix before curing.

It was a total game changer.

If you’ve never heard of solid gel polish before, you’re not alone. I hadn’t either—not that long ago.

Like a lot of people, I started with traditional nail polish. Then I discovered liquid gel polish, and while I loved the long-lasting results, I didn’t always love the application. Spills, flooding cuticles, bottles tipping over, and trying to control the perfect amount of product could make doing my nails feel more stressful than relaxing.

Then I found solid gel polish.

Honestly? It completely changed the experience for me.

So… What Is Solid Gel Polish?

Think of solid gel polish as the best of both worlds. It has a soft, putty-like consistency instead of being runny like traditional gel polish. You scoop out the amount you need with a brush or tool, apply it to your nail, and cure it under a UV/LED lamp just like regular gel.

Because it stays where you put it, you have so much more control while you’re working.

For me, that was a game changer.

Why I Love It

It’s Less Messy

No drips. No puddles. No accidentally knocking over an open bottle.

The gel stays in its container until you’re ready to use it, making the whole process feel cleaner and more enjoyable.

It’s Beginner-Friendly

If you’re new to gel nails, solid gel polish gives you more time to perfect your application before curing.

Instead of rushing to keep liquid polish from running into your cuticles, you can slow down and take your time creating clean, beautiful nails.

It Gives You More Control

Whether you’re painting a full set or creating detailed nail art, the thicker consistency makes it easier to place the product exactly where you want it.

That extra control can make learning nail art feel much less intimidating.

A Little Can Go a Long Way

Since you scoop out only what you need, it’s easy to avoid using more product than necessary. I also find it easier to keep my workspace neat because I’m working from a palette instead of an open bottle.

Is Solid Gel Polish Right for Everyone?

Like any nail product, everyone has their own preferences.

Some people love the familiarity of traditional liquid gel polish, while others—like me—fall in love with the control and creativity that solid gel offers.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by runny polish or wished you had a little more time to perfect your manicure, solid gel polish might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

Why I Built OE Nail Co. Around It

When I decided to build OE Nail Co. by Jenn, I knew I wanted to focus on products I genuinely believed in—not just products that were popular.

Solid gel polish made doing my nails more enjoyable, more creative, and a lot less stressful. That’s the experience I want to share with others.

Whether you’re picking up a brush for the very first time or you’ve been creating nail art for years, I hope you discover the same thing I did:

Sometimes the smallest change in your routine can completely transform the experience.

With the right tools, you’ll stop orbiting and conquer.

Happy Conquering,

Jenn 💜
